From August 22: Preseason Week 3 – Game Day Pick

Of the 14 games left in the 2025 preseason, we like 2 of them.

This evening, the Bears play the Chiefs in KC. The big question to ask yourself is, “Who is going to play?” Andy Reid is going to start his real team in two weeks. Right now, they are getting ready for Week 1 in September, not the 3rd week of preseason in August. They play 17 games over an 18 week period with the goal of getting a bye week for the playoffs. The last thing Andy needs to do is have Patrick Mahomes play tonight. Instead, Gardner Minshew will start at QB with a bunch of players trying to make the final cut. In preseason the real teams play to get ready, not to win. By the 3rd or 4th Quarter, the players on the field will be playing to make the practice squad.

Chicago, on the other hand, will be playing their starters. They need to find the rhythm and continuity between their QB Caleb Williams and his fellow teammates. The betting line opened up with the Chiefs – 3 and is now down to – 1 ½.

We are going to take Chicago plus the 1 ½ points because, unlike the Chiefs, the Bears need to look good with this win. They have some very good players trying to make the final cut and have a new head coach who needs to establish a winning attitude. A win on the road against the Chiefs will feel good for the Bears.

Our 2nd game is on Saturday. The LA Rams travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns. The line opened with Cleveland – 2 ½ as favorites to win. It is currently – 8 ½. It looks like the world has found out Sean McVay will be resting his starters to finalize his roster. The best teams with an excellent head coach prove over and over why they are the best at what they do and McVay is right up there.

Last year the Rams finished their final five regular season games at 4 – 1. For the year, they were 10 – 7 and allowed 386 points. The Browns finished their final five games at 0 – 5 and, for the year at home, they were 2 – 6 and gave up 435 points. Now they’re the – 8 ½ point favorite to win on Saturday!

Joe Flacco will start for the Browns. He’ll play a few series of plays before Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders come in to finally figure out who will be Joe’s back up. Both games are worth watching. If you’re not happy with the – 8 ½ line, you might want to play a 2 team, 6 point teaser. You get Chicago + 7 ½ and Cleveland – 2 ½.

The Money line was also pounded. It opened up with Cleveland being – 142 to win 100 and now it’s – 410 to win 100.
